Structural Steel

  • West side detailing essentially complete
  • 17,063 tonnes of steel fabricated to January 25
  • 15,336 tonnes erected to January 26

 Masonry

  • Block work proceeding on levels 3500, 9000 and 14,000

 Glazing

  • Wind load truss installation proceeding along east elevation
  • Glass installation proceeding on CGCW and SGCW
  • Glass fins have started on the north elevation

 Roofing

  • Roofing installation proceeding south to north on east side of roof structure (east of GL 25).  Soil is being added to the roof
  • Tents installed on areas west of GL 25 to allow roofing to proceed in inclement weather

 Mechanical

  • Rough-in work continuing on all levels
  • Ductwork/insulation proceeding
  • Mechanical equipment arriving to site

 Electrical

  • Main electrical room proceeding (permanent power expected mid March)

Project Description

The new Vancouver Convention Centre Expansion Project which is located in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia.  The Vancouver Convention Centre once complete will total 1.1 million square feet (approximately four city blocks).  The building's rooftop will feature a six acre “living roof”, one of the largest of its kind in the world. Work began on the site October 12, 2004 commencing with the site preparation and civil work packages.  Completion is scheduled for March 2009. The newly expanded Convention Centre will serve a pivotal role for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and 2010 Paralympics by housing the International Broadcast Centre (IBC). The IBC will be the media nerve centre for both of the games and will host over 10,000 media representatives from around the world. Located right on the waterfront with stunning mountain views this incredible facility will truly provide the global media with an amazing backdrop for the whole world to see.
