City of North Vancouver Library

Overview:

• Will be registered with a LEED Gold rating for sustainable building design.
• Level 3 Terrace & Level 4 Roof - green roof, solar panels, and clerestory glazing.
• Solar hot water heating system will be installed on the roof level with 120 solar panels to provide supplemental heating water for the Lonsdale Energy Commission District Heating System, which is being set up to provide central plant heating to several buildings being built in the area.
• Geo-exchange ground loop system being used. Slinky coils are being installed horizontally and vertically along the deep parkade side walls in all areas where there is slab on grade in the parkade, which will serve to provide cooling for the library.
• The building's concrete structure is one of the primary “air conditioning systems” with over 6,000 meters of PEX tubing embedded in the slab to provide radiant slab cooling and heating.

Site Construction and Progress:

·         Landscaping – currently working on handicap ramp and stair at east lane and water feature (south wall of water trough), Children's Courtyard; and building temporary handicap access across existing water feature so that area west of Eighties Restaurant can begin.

·         Backfilling – currently bringing up west end of library to rough grade.

·         Stair #5 structure: suspended slab complete; only curb and small wall left to form and pour.

·         Concrete block: only Pump Room remains.

·         Brick veneer: now installing brick on east elevation.

·         Structural steel: installation of miscellaneous metals in various areas ongoing.

·         Rough carpentry: only Stair #4 and east canopies remain.

·         Wood door and window frames: installation ongoing.

·         Millwork: installation progressing. Most pieces are fabricated and will follow carpet installation.

·         Roofing: TPO membrane complete; flashings nearing completion.

·         Exterior cladding: north wall complete; only loading dock soffit remains.

·         Metal Panels: work is progressing well; only Stair #4 and east canopies remain.

·         Horizontal membrane: plaza work nearing completion.

·         Spray insulation: complete on Level P1.

·         Curtain wall: complete except for a few flashings (waiting for brick & stone to be installed).

·         Misc. Glazing: started in parkade; atrium glass starting end of month.

·         Folding partition: track in place and door will follow carpet installation.

·         Drywall: complete.

·         GWB Ceilings: only small portion remains at main floor by elevators.

·         Acoustic & metal ceilings: T-bar is in on all levels; panel installation has started on all levels.

·         Wood ceilings: installation started on Level 1.

·         Carpet tile: installation is currently on Level 2.

·         Stone: stone treads installed at Stair #3.

·         Porcelain tile: floor tile complete on all areas except Lobby Level 1.

·         Painting: at various stages of completion on L1, L2, and L3; painters started in parkade.

·         Elevators #1 and #2: cabs are nearing completion.

·         Solar panels: installation is complete.

·         Mechanical & Electrical: finishing work is wrapping up.

·         Commissioning: well under way and progressing well.
