Project Features/Highlights
  • YVR has embarked on a program to expand the International Terminal Building (ITB).
  • The project will add a total of 36,508 square meters (m2) of new space and eight new gates.
  • There is a major thematic and retail which will include an aquarium and water feature.
  • On Level 3 there are the mechanical and electrical service rooms, moving walkways, new hold rooms, building cores, seating, furniture and passengers services. 
  • On Level 2, there is space for a future baggage hall, a new Airport Authority maintenance shop/office area, retail storage spaces and mechanical and electrical rooms.
Project Description

The project involved adding 35,000 m2 of space to the existing Vancouver International Airport Terminal Building.  The contract includes the following key components: concrete and foundations, earthworks, architectural finishes, exterior building envelope, mechanical, electrical, demolition, paving, miscellaneous metals, doors/frames/hardware, and new gates.  PCL is to manage, schedule and coordinate assigned contractors, including structural steel, metal decking, elevators, escalators and moving walkways, apron drive bridges, as well as security and CCTV and communications.  Of special interest, the project included building the largest indoor aquarium in a North American airport, as well as a "thematics" river feature which enhances the public's experience when travelling through YVR.
