Project Description

The project was the second phase of the Four Seasons Resort Hotel complex in Whistler, BC (PCL completed Phase 1 in June 2004). Phase 2 included a nine-storey stepped tower, consisting of 37 luxury condominium units (some as large as 3,800 square feet), as well as a health spa, pools, heated parkade, and extensive hard and soft landscaping of the adjoining grounds.

The nine-storey, 170,000-square-foot tower consisted of a cast-in-place concrete structure with a structural steel roof system. The building envelope was extremely complex, consisting of an integration of pre-cast, stone, Hardie-shingles, glazing and EIFS, with copper flashings and heavy timber dentils, fretwork, and gables.

The roof system consisted of over 120 individual roof planes, with extensive use of dormers, snow-melt systems, and heavy timber gables and fascias.

An exceptional component of this project was its extensive use of detailed high-end finishes including: various stones and granites from India and Brazil, wood crown-molding and casings throughout, coffered ceilings, engineered hardwood flooring, specialty stainless steel and “shattered” glass features, gold-leaf work, etc.
