Project Features/Highlights
FMF Cape Breton is a new repair and overhaul facility located at the dockyard of CFB Equimalt and will be used in the maintenance of the Canadian Navy's Westcoast fleet. Scope of work included a 50 kpa (1,000 psf) suspended slab above crawl space, supported by over 2,900 lm of down hole drilled piles and footings. We self performed 19,650 m2 of formwork, and 7,800 m3 of concrete placing. We constructed the envelope out of structural steel framing, metal cladding, and modified bituminous roofing. Special waste, hydrocarbon and industrial quality soils were identified and transported to the owner's dump facility in Colwood. The original facility plan covered a surface area of 15,300 m2 and was constructed as Package 7 of a multi-phased project. Due to budget restraints, the building was descoped to 11,600 m2 as option 2A. Interior partitions, mechanical, electrical, and finishes were part of a separate work Package 8 included as allowances in the Package 7 base contract which was competitively tendered and came in $6.8 million over the Package 7 allowance. The owner presented option 2A to reduce both Package 7 and 8 scopes to bring the project to within budget. Project Description
