Project Description
The addition is a mix of structural steel, wood frame and concrete. Finishes include extensive use of Tyndall stone, cultured stone, acrylic stucco, Hardi-Board and exposed colored concrete for sidewalks. The exposed sloped metal roof at the front and top of the Great Hall matches the existing school finishes. Several new classrooms were added. The music and drama facilities were upgraded and the existing theater was altered by raising the roof to make room for new catwalks and sound systems. Our contract also provided pre-construction services during the design stages, allowing fast-tracked construction of a new stand alone electrical room building, plus renovation and addition to the existing music room and adjacent practice rooms. In 2004, demolition of the existing theatre and related structures was accomplished—all well before design was complete. We renovated several other existing classrooms, laboratories, offices and corridor spaces after school hours and on school breaks. An impressive Great Hall featuring glulam braces and ventwood ceilings was built to tie everything together over the existing courtyard, featuring a Memorabilia Lounge with a stone fire place, new entry, foyer and elevator. The total gross combined construction area was approximately 34,500 square feet. We completed the work year round while the school remained fully operational.
